History

Born in Paris on May 8th 1813, Frédéric Triébert was the youngest son of Guillaume (1770-1847), founder of the Parisian dynasty of wind instrument makers.

Guillaume Triebert became Maitre Factor in 1810, and produced his first ever exhibition in 1827 for his instruments: flute, oboe, English horn and oboe baritone. In 1934, his oboes were judged "superior to all those of the same kind".

G. Triebert died in 1848 but he left his youngest son Frédéric Triebert to continue the adventure of the family atelier.

Frédéric Triebert proved himself a clever, intelligent and worthy heir, thanks to his sense of innovation and his technical mastery.

F. Triebert’s first invention was a mobile clarinet mouthpiece, patented in 1847 at the same time as the Multiphonic clarinet, elongated by means of sliding sockets, so as to give the instrument the length of the clarinets. Then in 1849 came a new combination of keys simplifying the handling and playing of the intstuments.

In 1855 Triebert were award with their first gold medal. Previously, Manufacture Triebert was awarded a bronze medal in 1849 and a 2nd class in London in 1851. It is essentially for the perfection of the oboe or Boehm.

The Triebert-Boehm bassoon was tried in 1962. The mechanism was designed by the exceptional craftsmen of the Triebert house, the sound was more accurate and more homogeneous than that of the ordinary bassoon. A specimen is visible in the museum of the Paris Conservatory (No. 510).

The Prize Medal was awarded to F.Triebert for the excellent quality of his instruments and the first application of the bassoon Boehm system.

In 1872, he had patented various other improvments for clarinet, oboe and bassoon. Frederic Triebert died on March 19, 1878.

On August 5, 1881, the equipment and know-how of the Tribert atelier were sold to the house of Goutrot.
